As their name indicates, clean room filters, also referred to as HEPA filters, are capable of providing extra high grade clean air environments. HEPA filters are used in cases where not only dust and coarse particles need to be removed from the air, but also pollen and fine particles.

Depending on the grade of the filter, they can even retain bacteria and microparticles (0.4 microns), allowing them to be used safely in sterile room HVAC systems. Industrial clean room filters are the modern tools of air ventilation and fine filtration in HVAC technology.

Most HEPA filters consist of a filter medium mounted on a frame made of a composite material or metal. This setup is practical and easy to use. Filters for suspended particles are usually available with the following frames: MDF, aluminium, plastic, metal, surface treated or galvanised steel. The filter medium is usually a mat composed of micro glass fibres or a composite of a similar type of glass fibre and other filter media.

The standard thicknesses of industrial clean room filters are 78 mm, 150 mm and 292 mm, but clean room filters can also be ordered in individual sizes and unique structures.

The efficiency of clean room filters can vary greatly. A class E10 clean room filter has an efficiency of 85%, an H13 removes 99.95% of suspended particles, and U16 air filters provide air for laboratories with an efficiency of 99.99995%.
